Designers Home
Welcome to my living room in the Ribble Valley, a space that embodies warmth, creativity, and personal expression. While I'm a professional designer, this room wasn't the result of meticulous planning or a formal design process. Instead, it evolved organically over time, reflecting the journey of settling into my first home. Each piece in this room was carefully chosen, collected, and curated, making it a true reflection of my personal style and experiences.
The room's ambience is cosy and inviting, a space meant to be lived in and enjoyed. I wanted it to feel comfortable and fun, with a touch of sophistication. The colour palette is a blend of rich, earthy tones, punctuated by vibrant accents that add energy and character. The plush velvet sofa, with its deep, luxurious blue hue, anchors the room and offers a perfect spot to unwind.
One of the most striking elements in the room is the captivating painting by the incredibly talented artist, Chris Rivers. This piece truly ties the space together, pulling in the colours and moods I found myself gravitating towards. At first glance, the painting dazzles with its swirling blend of blues, greens, and warm tones, evoking a sense of movement and emotion. However, upon closer inspection, you’ll discover intricate details that bring the artwork to life—tiny cherubs and skeletons subtly woven into the abstract design. These hidden elements add layers of depth and intrigue, inviting you to linger and explore the painting’s complexity.
Complementing the artwork are the Tom Dixon metallic copper pendant lights that hang gracefully in the corner (which I pulled from a skip when I worked at Harrods!), their reflective surfaces adding warmth and a modern touch. The mix of textures and materials, from the velvet upholstery to the natural wood of the vintage dresser, creates a balanced yet dynamic environment. A pair of emerald green ottomans with brass accents add a pop of colour and provide additional seating, while the abstract mirror above the dresser adds a playful, organic shape to the room.
Every element in this living room tells a story—whether it’s a treasured find, a piece of art that spoke to me, or a cosy throw that adds comfort. It’s a space that feels truly personal, where design meets real life, and where every corner reflects my journey of making this house a home.
