THAI RESTAURANT
This project transcends mere aesthetics; it is infused with deeper significance. Rambuttri, a leafy oasis in Bangkok, renowned for its tranquil Koi Carp pond, served as the perfect starting point for our design journey.

Our goal was to craft a restaurant with a warm, inviting atmosphere, blending vibrant and moody elements. Dark wooden tones, rich fabrics, and golden accents throughout the space contribute to its luxurious yet cosy ambiance. The colour scheme, featuring deep blues, rich browns, muted greens, burnt oranges, fierce reds, and golden hues, draws inspiration from the intricate Thai Phrae Wa silk. This palette creates a harmonious and sophisticated environment that reflects the cultural richness of Thailand.

The walls are adorned with textured finishes and artistic elements. The main walls, painted in deep, inky blue lime wash, mirror the calm waters that inspired the design. Ornamental Koi Carp, depicted in graceful, flowing positions, swim through the depths, enhancing the sense of movement and tranquility. These fish circle moon reflections and ‘lily pads,’ represented by the lighting and wooden art. To ensure authenticity, I sourced genuine Thai craft pieces. Another wall features a mural with cranes, complementing the serene, nature-inspired theme, while the toilets are adorned with bright gold paper and patterns reminiscent of fish tails.

Inspired by local architecture, I designed custom doors and dividers featuring intricate ramshackle wooden frames filled with textured ripple glass panes.
The ceiling is adorned with lush green foliage, bringing in the tropical nature characteristic of the area.

Seating includes a mix of custom upholstered chairs and tasselled benches in rich, patterned fabrics. I used luxury brands like Casamance, Kai, and Lizzo for the chair backs, complemented by practical fabrics on the bases. Patterns on the fabrics represent fans and water waves. Matching scatter cushions with luxury fringing and piping complete the look.

A standout feature is the large, cascading chandelier made of golden chains, creating a dramatic focal point and adding a touch of opulence, reminiscent of Thailand’s golden temples. Additional lighting includes metal mesh pendant lights, natural woven grass lights with fringing, luxury tassel lights from Rothschild and Bickers, and circular wall sconces that emit a soft, ambient glow.

The bar is another highlight, adorned with a stunning Thai rug that adds rich texture and colour, providing a surprising and alternative selection.

Rambuttri’s interior seamlessly blends vibrant and moody aesthetics to create an elegant and inviting dining space. By incorporating authentic Thai design elements, luxurious materials, and nature-inspired decor, we have ensured an immersive and culturally rich dining experience, making Rambuttri a standout destination in Leeds.
