fEATHERSTONE
LIVING ROOM
The client's initial inspiration for this room originated from a white leather chesterfield with diamanté studs—an aesthetic that, in my view, leans a bit too heavily towards overt glamour. I believe that interiors should convey luxury through whispers rather than shouts. Genuine luxury spaces often embrace subtlety and timelessness. Crafting a truly luxurious environment requires a careful curation of quality design pieces and a sophisticated mix of materials and textures. Despite my reservations about the initial inspiration, it served as a valuable starting point to understand the client's desired direction: show house style, glamorous, light, and airy.

As designers, our daily immersion in a diverse world of visual ideas and styles informs our approach. In this context, my role was to introduce the client to new ideas aligned with their initial aesthetic, aiming to inspire and broaden their vision of possibilities. Acknowledging the general direction, we conducted an in-depth creative meeting where I discussed and demonstrated completed concepts of stylish and light rooms, akin to those on the moodboard. The client loved many of the visuals presented, leading us to incorporate clean contemporary lines into the overall design.
We maintained the white sofa as a starting point and devised a scheme that was both neutral and light.

Regrettably, the original fireplace had already been removed before my full involvement in the project. However, this presented an opportunity to introduce something exceptionally contemporary as a contrast to the Edwardian property and we designed a custom fireplace made from alabaster stone backed with book match marble. To optimise the project's value, we replicated a Ferm Living bench seat at half the cost. Additionally, to provide the client with a unique touch, we had custom cushions made.

Recognising the pivotal role of technology in enhancing practicality and usability, we decided to integrate motorised blinds for the numerous windows. This feature facilitates easy adjustments at the touch of a button, saving both time and energy and ensuring uniformity in blind positioning. While curtains were a preferred choice, the intricate ledged framing around the windows posed a challenging task that would necessitate a custom pole, unfortunately exceeding the budget. Consequently, we opted for blinds as a more budget-friendly solution to dress the windows.

Working closely with the client and showing him some new ideas we felt he'd like was really rewarding on this project. Take some time to read our blog on what's trending in luxury interiors.
The client loved his finished living room. We actually worked on the whole property and you'll be able to see the rest of the rooms in links below.

Featherstone Hall is a Georgian property based in Yorkshire, and was already undergoing a major renovation when I was brought onboard to redesign the whole home. The historic property was being gutted.... a little too radically and I arrived just in time to halt some of the skip enthusiasm. The designer is the first person you should hire on any project so we can ensure that all renovation decisions are well considered. Read our blog on the subject.
